TV10 Crested Butte and Gunnison Valley Daily Weather Update: 5/25/12 For Today: The big mix of weather conditions will be coming together early with regional radar showing weak pockets of northern moisture that will offer cloud cover on the divide by noon. This won’t amount to much but the combination of warm southern air and this cooler northern trough will start winds that will top out tomorrow gusting to 50 plus in the valleys and higher on the higher terrain. Expect some blowing dust and batten down the hatches.

Temperatures: Overnight lows were cooler as skies cleared with Crested Butte dropping to 30 and 36 for Gunnison. Highs today will pop with the warm southern flow to 68 for CB and 78 for Gunny. Lows will be slightly warmer tonight but expect more wind.

Outlook: These high winds will shuffle the western pattern pretty significantly through the next 48 hours but skies will stay mostly clear even with the very high winds. Expect gusts to 50mph through Saturday kicking up dust to the west and drawing in some cooler air for Sunday before a very long string of high pressure days sets up.

Clearing but cool.

TV10 Crested Butte and Gunnison Valley Daily Weather Update: 5/24/12 For Today: The lingering low clouds and moisture and will burn off early but expect at least partly cloudy conditions all day with high gusting winds. Look for gaps of sunshine starting early but cooler temperatures will hold before we see the warmer southwestern flow develop.

Temperatures: Overnight lows stayed above freezing in the valleys with Crested Butte reporting 33 and 37 for Gunnison but the snow above 9500ft tells a different story. Highs will hold to 56 for CB and 65 for Gunny while the colder northern air moves out. Lows tonight will drop as skies clear to right around freezing for all elevations.

Outlook: We will seesaw between low pressure troughs out of the north and a milder southwestern flow. Any moisture will stay to our north but the interaction between these air masses will have us in high winds gusting to 40mph+ on Friday slowly lowering through the weekend. Expect variations in temperatures and be prepared if you are headed out.

A mixed bag for today.

TV10 Crested Butte and Gunnison Valley Daily Weather Update: 5/23/12 For Today: This northern system has weakened but regional radar is showing a weak pocket pushing down over the divide which will be responsible for a mix of sun and cloud cover through the day. Expect high gusting winds and widely scattered thundershowers through the afternoon. Nothing too impressive but worth being prepared for.

Temperatures: Overnight lows were warm under the southern flow with the clouds holding to 39 for Crested Butte and 41 for Gunnison. Highs will be warm again but moderated by the clouds with CB hitting 63 and 72 for Gunny. Look for another mild night with lows in the mid 30’s.

Outlook: Low pressure out of the north with will be close enough to stir the weather pot but we won’t see any real moisture. We will see consistent gusting winds with high wind warnings possible into the weekend. Fire conditions will remain dangerous so be smart.

Warm but windy.

TV10 Crested Butte and Gunnison Valley Daily Weather Update: 5/22/12 For Today: A shift in the western weather pattern will draw warm air up from the south pushing us to near record highs while driving humidity levels down. We are under a RED FLAG FIRE WARNING and winds will start to blow this afternoon. Expect some cloud cover but little available moisture will limit the convective potential.

Temperatures: Overnight lows were warmer under the southern influence with Crested Butte holding to 30 degrees and 34 for Gunnison. Look for highs today climbing to 73 for CB and 80 for Gunny. Lows will be warm again with all elevations likely above freezing.

Outlook: Troughs of low pressure pushing across the west will stay to our north keeping us on the windier fringe as this pattern develops. Expect a mix of sun and clouds with scattered thundershowers possible on the high terrain through Wednesday with consistent high gusting winds through the end of the week.

TV10 Crested Butte and Gunnison Valley Daily Weather Update: 5/21/12 For Today: A drier southwesterly flow will push temperatures up today with mostly sunny skies set to hold through the better part of the day. Some available moisture will offer scattered cloud cover through the afternoon with these warmer than normal temperatures with some gusting winds but conditions will be beautiful.

Temperatures: Overnight lows dropped under clear skies to 29 for Crested Butte and 33 for Gunnison. Highs today will hit 71 for CB and push to 79 degrees for Gunny. Look for lows tonight in the low 30’s.

Outlook: These dry and super warm conditions will hold through Tuesday but by Wednesday the southern end of a northern system will introduce high gusting winds and scattered cloud cover. By Thursday cloud cover will thicken and lower with thundershowers likely before skies clear again by Friday.

A serious temperature rebound.

TV10 Crested Butte and Gunnison Valley Daily Weather Update: 5/20/12 For Today: High pressure is pushing back into the area and we will see a significant warm up over the cooler temperatures yesterday. Look for sunny skies dominating all day with just some scattered high clouds through the afternoon. This will mean perfect viewing for the partial annular solar eclipse starting at 6:22pm and peaking at 7:31pm.

Temperatures: Overnight lows dropped under the clear skies to 26 degrees for Crested Butte and 32 degrees for Gunnison. Highs today will climb to 64 for CB and 72 for Gunny under clear blue skies. Look for lows tonight hovering on the freezing mark for all elevations.

Outlook: Super warm temperatures and high pressure will be dominating this week with the first variables holding off until Wednesday. A northern trough will move through northern Colorado offering a slight increase in cloud cover but high gusting winds. This will increase the fire danger so be careful out there.

A wet start to a cool day.

TV10 Crested Butte and Gunnison Valley Daily Weather Update: 5/19/12 For Today: The tail end of this system is still moving through our area with regional radar showing a fairly organized pocket holding along the divide early. Look for little moisture to actually hit the ground but prepare for scattered cells with cool temperatures 5-10 degrees colder than we have seen all week. We will dry into the afternoon but be prepared earlier in the day.

Temperatures: Overnight lows held to 32 for Crested Butte and 35 for Gunnison. Highs will stay cool at 55 for CB and 64 for Gunny. Look for colder lows dropping below freezing tonight as skies clear.

Outlook: Much drier air will work into the area through this afternoon with mild and sunny conditions returning Sunday. Models are showing weak systems trying to form in the west but high pressure will dominate for most of the week.

TV10 Crested Butte and Gunnison Valley Daily Weather Update: 5/18/12 For Today: Regional radar is showing pacific moisture pushing out of Utah along the I70 corridor early and this will eventually find our area. High clouds on the divide early will lower and thicken through the day with scattered thundershowers through the afternoon turning to more consistent rain or even snow for the highest elevations overnight.

Temperatures: Overnight lows were fairly warm with Crested Butte reporting 32 degrees and 35 for Gunnison. Highs today will climb early but be moderated by the clouds with CB topping out at 63 and 70 for Gunny. Look for lows a lot like last night again tonight.

Outlook: The brunt of this system will move through tonight but look for some lingering moisture early Saturday to fuel scattered showers early in the day and daytime highs 5-10 degrees cooler than we have been seeing. Sunday will bring back the warm high pressure with sunny skies expected through the beginning of the week.

TV10 Crested Butte and Gunnison Valley Daily Weather Update: 5/17/12 For Today: Yesterday’s storms moved into the area slower than expected and as a result residual moisture is offering up some cloud cover early. Look for this to clear but the resulting warm sunny conditions will fuel another round of convective afternoon thundershowers building with the heat of the day. Have a layer handy but it will be a great day to get outside.

Temperatures: Overnight lows stayed warm with the cloud cover with Crested Butte reporting 34 degrees and 38 for Gunnison. Highs will rebound under the sunny skies through noon hitting 66 for CB and 74 for Gunny. Lows will stay on the warm side in the high 30’s tonight with cloud cover expected.

Outlook: Another weak system passing through on Friday will offer cloud cover and high gusting winds. By Saturday skies will clear but expect temperatures 10 degrees cooler than we have been seeing. Sunday will bring back the high pressure which will hold into next week.

A sunny start but thundershowers brewing.

TV10 Crested Butte and Gunnison Valley Daily Weather Update: 5/16/12 For Today: Regional radar is showing moisture from this next pacific system moving along the I70 corridor. Look for high clouds early to thicken and lower offering scattered thundershowers after noon starting on the higher terrain before spreading to the lower valleys. These won’t be too impressive but will be worth being prepared for.

Temperatures: Overnight lows were warmer dropping to just 31 for Crested Butte and 36 for Gunnison. Highs will climb early but stay cooler with the cloud cover with CB holding to 62 and 69 for Gunny. Look for lows holding to the low 30’s tonight with insulating cloud cover.

Outlook: We will be sitting on the high pressure line in the west with afternoon thundershowers originating on the other side of the divide bleeding into our area through the afternoons. These will likely produce little to no moisture especially for the south end of the valley but stay prepared just in case.

TV10 Crested Butte and Gunnison Valley Daily Weather Update: 5/15/12 For Today: We will see slightly more moisture building into the area this afternoon which will provide more fuel for isolated thundershowers with these continued warm conditions. These are definitely not worth changing any plans over but if your adventures take you to the higher terrain this afternoon, have a layer.

Temperatures: Lows dropped again under the clear skies to 27 degrees for Crested Butte and 31 for Gunnison. Highs will climb by a couple degrees with CB reaching 67 and 74 for Gunny. Look for lows to be about the same tonight.

Outlook: Wednesday will bring a glancing blow from a northern trough that will offer an increase in moisture that will fuel widespread afternoon thundershowers. These will remain scattered but with the very warm temperatures, you will want to be prepared. By Thursday we are back in the high pressure through the end of the week.

TV10 Crested Butte and Gunnison Valley Daily Weather Update: 5/14/12 For Today: This high pressure ridge has moved into our area and we will see much drier conditions than the last few days. Expect some cloud cover building with the heat of the day but not enough to create thundershowers.

Temperatures: Overnight lows dropped under the clear skies to 25 degrees in Crested Butte and 29 degrees in Gunnison. Highs will warm a few degrees to 63 for CB and 70 for Gunny. Look for lows to be slightly warmer tonight but still below freezing for all elevations.

Outlook: Warm dry conditions are setting up across the west and a mild southwestern flow will dominate. Wednesday will bring some cloud cover and gusting winds but no moisture and dry conditions will return to close out the week.

TV10 Crested Butte and Gunnison Valley Daily Weather Update: 5/13/12 For Today: Drier conditions have steadily developed through the weekend and we will see a much longer window of sunshine today. With the sun will come warmer temperatures and there is still enough moisture in the atmosphere to fire up some big popcorn clouds and isolated thundershowers. Get out early or pack some layers just in case.

Temperatures: Overnight lows dropped under the clearer skies to 25 for Crested Butte and 31 for Gunnison. Highs will rebound quickly to 55 for CB and 66 for Gunny. Lows tonight will be on the cooler side again in the high 20’s for all elevations.

Outlook: A much drier pattern is building into the west for this week with a high pressure ridge keeping pacific moisture well to the north. Expect cloud cover and terrain driven winds through the afternoons but mild temperatures and beautiful sunny conditions will dominate.

TV10 Crested Butte and Gunnison Valley Daily Weather Update: 5/12/12 For Today: The brunt of the organized moisture is past us but a well saturated atmosphere combining with another weak system out of the northwest will keep conditions active. Look for the low clouds to burn off through the morning but any window of sunshine will be short with more thundershowers redeveloping early in the afternoon. Storms shouldn’t be as strong as yesterday but expect some cells worth being prepared for.

Temperatures: Overnight lows dropped even with the clouds with Crested Butte reporting 29 degrees and a warmer 34 for Gunnison. Highs will stay cool with CB holding to 53 and 63 for Gunny. Look for the same lows tonight.

Outlook: Moisture will continue to feed into the area through Sunday with snow possible again at the higher elevations Saturday night feeding another day like today. By Monday we will dry out with a much warmer and sunnier string of days on tap.

TV10 Crested Butte and Gunnison Valley Daily Weather Update: 5/11/12 For Today: Regional radar is showing a stream of moisture moving right along the divide with the brunt holding to the north early but this will effect our area as the day progresses. Look for cloud cover to thicken after noon with scattered thundershowers starting on the high terrain and moving down the valley. These will continue into tonight with snow possible at the higher elevations.

Temperatures: Overnight lows held steady with Crested Butte reporting 29 degrees and 33 for Gunnison. Highs will be cooler today with the clouds topping out at 60 for CB and 68 for Gunny. Lows will hover on 30 for all elevations tonight.

Outlook: This northern flow of moisture will be sinking through to the south this weekend offering fuel for fairly consistent afternoon thundershowers. Saturday is threatening to be active for the north end of the valley while areas to the south see a watered down version with showers restricted to the afternoon. These systems will be hit or miss so be prepared.

TV10 Crested Butte and Gunnison Valley Daily Weather Update: 5/10/12 For Today: We will have another day of conditions just like yesterday but with the high temperatures warming by a couple degrees and potentially adding more fuel to the convective cloud cover and thundershowers through the afternoon. Available moisture remains the limiting factor but with these afternoon systems but it will be worth carrying a rain layer just in case.

Temperatures: Overnight lows were warmer with Crested Butte reporting 27 degrees and 33 for Gunnison. Highs will climb by a couple degrees with CB reaching 63 and 69 for Gunny. Lows tonight will be the same as last night.

Outlook: We are seeing a northern system that will drop down the front range through the end of the week drawing southern moisture up into southern Colorado. We will be between the organized components but increased moisture will fuel more consistent thundershowers with Saturday looking active. This is still developing so expect changes.

TV10 Crested Butte and Gunnison Valley Daily Weather Update: 5/9/12 For Today: We are into a dry slot between these weak pacific waves and mostly sunny conditions will dominate. Look for significantly warmer temperatures building early to fire up some convective cloud cover through the afternoon. Chances of any significant thundershowers are limited but plan accordingly with any adventures to the higher terrain.

Temperatures: Overnight lows dropped to 25 for Crested Butte and 30 for Gunnison under clear skies. Highs will rebound quickly reaching 60 for CB and 66 for Gunny. Lows tonight will hold to the high 20’s again.

Outlook: We will see a zonal pattern through Thursday keeping us in the warmer and drier conditions but another round of southern moisture wrapping around from the east will mean more active conditions this weekend. Warmer temperatures will likely keep us out of the snow but expect variable conditions changing as the pattern develops.

A sunny mix early.

TV10 Crested Butte and Gunnison Valley Daily Weather Update: 5/8/12 For Today: The brunt of the moisture fueling these rain and snow showers has cleared the area but we have plenty of fuel on tap for more thundershowers as the temperatures heat up. Look for low clouds to burn off early with a short window of sunshine before thundershowers develop that will take us into the evening before skies clear again.

Temperatures: Overnight lows dropped as skies cleared early with Crested Butte reporting 25 degrees and 30 for Gunnison. Highs will rebound as skies clear but only reaching 50 for CB and 59 for Gunny. Lows will drop again overnight to the mid to high 20’s.

Outlook: The current pattern drawing southern moisture up into the area will hold through Wednesday with scattered thundershowers becoming less prevalent with drier conditions on tap by Thursday. Models are showing a switch back to a zonal pattern out of the west for Friday and the weekend which should keep us mostly sunny but there may be enough residual and additional moisture to restart the convective showers Saturday.

TV10 Crested Butte and Gunnison Valley Daily Weather Update: 5/7/12 For Today: Regional radar is showing a steady stream of moisture lifting into our area from the south that will fuel thundershowers throughout the day. Snow will be possible above 9500ft so expect variable travel conditions on the high passes. Rain and snow showers will continue overnight.

Temperatures: Overnight lows were warm with the cloud cover with Crested Butte reporting 33 degrees and 37 for Gunnison. Highs today will be cool holding to 48 for CB and 55 for Gunny. Lows tonight will be in the low 30’s but could drop below freezing offering a chance of snow at the valley floors.

Outlook: This moisture will continue to wrap around from the east which is not generally a very productive pattern for us. Expect this moisture to act as fuel for convective thundershowers through Tuesday night. By Wednesday skies will be clearing but warmer temperatures will also keep the threat of isolated convective cells going through the end of the week.

Sunny early but changes on the way.

TV10 Crested Butte and Gunnison Valley Daily Weather Update: 5/6/12 For Today: We are transitioning into a much more active weather pattern in the west and high clouds early will drop and thicken into the afternoon. Isolated thundershowers on the higher terrain will be possible by the afternoon and high gusting winds will develop with the heat of the day. Get outside projects buttoned up with wetter conditions expected.

Temperatures: Overnight lows were cold valley wide with Crested Butte reporting 24 degrees and 28 for Gunnison. Highs will be cooler today with CB topping out at 56 and 65 for Gunny. Look for lows hovering on 30 for all elevations as cloud cover builds.

Outlook: Models are predicting a complicated mix of conditions bringing us much wetter conditions for this week. Look for a looping low pressure trough on the west coast pushing moisture down to our south to join a tropical low before the combined system lifts north into our area. The result will be a mix of partly sunny conditions and scattered thundershowers through the week before skies clear again Friday.
