More sun early but thundershowers coming.
For 7/31/10: For Today: The surge of subtropical moisture from the south has continued to keep precipitable water levels high across the southwest and we can expect another round of slow moving convective showers building with the heat of the day. These will be hit or miss systems but you will want to be prepared because they are slow moving and a hit will mean you are going to get wet.
Temperatures: Lows overnight showed some drier air moving in and offering cooler conditions with Crested Butte reporting 47 degrees and 50 for Gunnison. Highs will depend on the cloud cover but Crested Butte will reach 71 degrees and 79 for Gunnison. Look for another cooler low tonight in the high 40’s valley wide.
Outlook: A small shift in the pattern will push the moisture further north but this will only spread out the fuel for the convective thundershowers. Look for sun early turning to the threat of thundershowers through the afternoons to remain a consistent pattern into the beginning of next week. Get an early start on any big adventures and watch any water crossings carefully.
