Heavy clouds early and rain likely later.
For 7/29/10: For Today: Today is expected to be the peak in the potential for rain and thundershowers as this moisture rotates through the area from the southwest. Regional radar is showing a few slow moving cells early lifting through to the north. These will eventually find our area and we should expect slow moving and wetting systems by the afternoon.
Temperatures: Lows stayed warm again with the blanket of cloud cover with Crested Butte reporting 54 degrees and Gunnison holding to 58 degrees. Highs will be moderated by the cloud cover but look for gaps of sunshine to still push the northend of the valley to 71 degrees and 80 for Gunnison. Tonight will feel a lot like last night with lows holding in the mid 50’s.
Outlook: The subtropical plume of monsoonal moisture is continuing to lift directly up into the west and this will fuel at least convective thundershowers through the weekend. The influx of drier western air through the end of the week will mean longer windows of sunshine but expect active afternoons and plan accordingly.
