The monsoon cometh.
For 6/29/10: For Today: Moisture has found it’s way up into our area with regional radar showing thundershowers over western Colorado early. The moisture is broken and scattered so consistent rains won’t be an issue but precipitable water values continue to climb and this will mean fuel for thundershowers building over the higher terrain through the heat of the day. Get out early or be prepared this afternoon.
Temperatures: Lows have climbed with the southern air and Crested Butte reported 40 degrees and 43 degrees for Gunnison. Daytime highs will be warmer today reaching 72 for CB and 81 for Gunnison. Overnight lows should hold above 40 again for all elevations.
Outlook: The subtropical plume that fuels the monsoonal flow is building strength and starting hint at the season. For this week the flow remains broken so thundershowers will remain widely scattered but it’s hinting at potential complications for the holiday weekend. No rain out but conditions to be prepared for.
