Sunny early but changes on the way.

For 6/11/10: For Today: This morning is offering the calm before the storm as a low pressure trough settles into the great basin and starts moving in our direction. We will see another round of spotty thundershowers building this afternoon after a sunny and warm day but these will likely continue overnight with a much more active weekend in the forecast.

Overnight lows cooled again by a couple degrees with Crested Butte dropping to 39 degrees and Gunnison reaching 40. Highs for today will be colder than we have been seeing with the high 60’s expected for Crested Butte and the 70’s for Gunnison as the cold front from the north starts to settle in. Look for lows dropping to the mid to high 30’s valley wide tonight.

Saturday will offer a mix of sun and clouds early but look for thundershowers building through the early afternoon. These will continue through Sunday with much colder temperatures offering snow on the peaks overnight and even to the valley floors early Sunday. Protect fragile plants and get the sweaters out for the weekend.
