A cold start but an incredible day in the works.
For 5/30/10: For Today: The cold air from the north built into the area through the afternoon yesterday and brought the cooler temperatures and gusting winds we were expecting but spared us the isolated thundershowers. We will see nothing but some light high altitude cloud cover today with sunny skies and light breezes as the wind slows down considerably. Pressure has risen consistently showing the development of the high pressure ridge that will keep us in sunny dry conditions through Memorial Day.
We are waking up to cold conditions this morning after overnight lows plummeted with the colder influence to 26 degrees in Crested Butte and 29 degrees for Gunnison. Temperatures will rebound quickly but look for cooler highs to persist through today with 60 degrees for the higher elevations while Gunnison and the lower valleys push 66 degrees. Tonight will be cold again but lows will hover closer to the freezing mark as warmer conditions return.
The long term forecast is promising warm dry days through the better part of this week starting with Memorial Day. Look for temperatures to rise for tomorrow by 10 degrees and hold steady for the work week.
