Still blowing.
For 5/24/10: For Today: Regional radar is showing the moisture we were expecting lifting through to the northwest but currently holding to our west. As the pattern starts to shift to the east, this moisture will find our area offering the forecast mix of rain and snow showers but the snow will hold mostly to the higher elevations. Look for strong gusting winds and partly sunny skies early to turn mostly cloudy by noon.
Overnight lows have stayed warmer than expected with the southern wind with Crested Butte reporting the 3rd straight night above freezing at 40 degrees while Gunnison reported 41 degrees. Daytime highs will hold to the high 40’s or low 50’s even with the warm start as this colder air blows in over the course of the day. Look for colder overnight lows dropping back towards freezing tonight.
Our proximity to the edge of this northern cold front and the southern warm air is what’s fueling the continued winds but this should also help the moisture mix clear of the area quickly. Sunny skies and mild temperatures will build again through Tuesday and hold on all week.
