Snow on the ground but high pressure building.

For 5/15/10: For Today: We are on the tail end of this northern system and skies will be clearing throughout the day but regional radar is showing a pocket of moisture wrapping around from the north that will fuel more rain and snow early. Look for conditions to start to clear after noon but thundershowers later in the day are possible. The worst of this weather will hold on the divide at the northern end of the valley with sunnier skies early in Gunnison.

Overnight lows warmed with the heavy cloud cover and storm activity with Gunnison holding just above the freezing mark at 33 degrees while Crested Butte dropped to 31 degrees. Daytime highs will climb throughout the day through the 30’s with the high 40’s or even low 50’s likely before the day is done. Overnight lows will drop back to the 20’s tonight as skies clear and the drier airmass settles in.

The high pressure ridge that will bring back the warm sunny conditions into tomorrow is still on track with temperatures rising to the 60’s through the beginning of the week. Look for this to hold through Tuesday with conditions getting a little more mixed into the middle of the week.
