Heavy southern snow.
For 5/14/10: For Today: We have seen the western weather pattern switch from the northern low pressure trough to more of a southern oriented flow and the good news is that we are seeing warmer temperatures. The bad news is that this switch happened just in time to draw a steady stream of moisture up from the south and it is feeding this snow we are seeing early. This warmer air mass will likely produce mixed precipitation throughout the day as the snow level climbs and this will mean sloppy travel conditions all over the valley.
Overnight lows reflect this warmer move with Crested Butte bottoming out at 30 degrees and Gunnison at 32. We are right on the freezing mark in the valleys early and temperatures are slated to climb to the mid 40’s over the course of the day. Tonight will mean more milder temperatures with cloud cover holding on with all elevations right around the freezing mark.
This southern moisture will be with us through tonight and taper off through Saturday. Snow accumulations should be limited but squally showers will keep us active. The warmer temperatures will likely allow for thundershowers through Saturday but skies will be clearing into Saturday night. Sunday is the light at the end of the tunnel and will bring high pressure and sunny warm conditions.
