More snow early but the pattern is shifting.

For 5/13/10: For Today: We are waking up to another round of low clouds and a fresh blanket of snow but the moisture has all but cleared the area. Regional radar shows a slow moving pocket stretching from Grand Junction through to our area that will fuel scattered snow showers and mostly cloudy conditions through the better part of the day but also look for spotty sunshine breaking through this afternoon. Today is a day of transition from the colder northern flow to a more zonal pattern out of the west and we are looking at some imminent changes.

Overnight lows hit 27 degrees for Crested Butte and 28 degrees for Gunnison. We will warm slowly with the lingering clouds and snow but should pop to the 40’s or even low 50’s for the south end of the valley as skies break this afternoon. Look for clearer conditions overnight to allow for another cold low in the 20’s.

The extended forecast is looking a little less organized today as models start to waffle on the pattern. As the flow switches to the west and southwest we will see significantly warmer temperatures but also some southern fuel that will linger into Saturday. Stay tuned for updates.
