Sunshine early but the storm's creeping in.

For 5/11/10: For Today: We have seen some positive developments through the last 24 hours with this big system in the northwest contracting under it’s own energy. The result will be a dry slot through this morning but regional radar is showing pockets of moisture over Grand Junction that will blow in on heavy winds by noon. By this afternoon we will start to see the rain snow mix with the snow line gradually dropping throughout the day.

Overnight lows last night were warm even under the clear skies with Crested Butte bottoming out at 31 degrees while Gunnison was colder at 28 degrees. Daytime highs will climb early under the sunny skies but will drop in the afternoon and steadily into tonight as this cold front settles into the area. Tonight will offer lows a couple degrees lower than last night with snow valley wide.

It won’t be any surprise to see models waffle back to a wetter forecast for later in the week after the high winds today but as it stands we will see snow and rain but only from the southern most edge of the northern system. Take advantage of windows as they appear but expect them to close quickly with these winds and have your escape route planed whether it’s from projects or adventures.
