Cold, windy and snowing.

For 4/29/10: For Today: We have seen an interesting weather soup develop in the west on the heals of it’s windy introduction with this trough continuing to draw moisture and cold temperatures into the area. The moisture is starting to look more scattered but the cold is right on track and this will provide the dynamics necessary to keep us in the threat of snow and thundershowers. Look for the winds to start to relax by tomorrow as the trough stalls for the weekend keeping us in below normal temperatures with the threat of snow until Sunday night.

Overnight lows were mixed with Gunnison staying warmer at 32 degrees while Crested Butte dropped to 27 degrees but both with significantly colder windchill values. Daytime highs will hold to the 30’s as this cold air drops into the area while tonight will offer some clearing which will open the door to lows in the teens.

The winds are already showing signs of dropping with our high wind gust of 44mph measured at 1am in Crested Butte which means the ridges and wide open flats were blowing much stronger. Regardless you will want to expect colder windchills and fast moving squally storms and plan accordingly today.
