On the edge of some big changes.

For 4/28/10: For Today: We are into our day of transition as this next round of pacific moisture is brewing to the west. We are seeing the calm before the storm early but Grand junction is already reporting gusts to 50mph and this will be on us by noon. Look for some scattered thundershowers later in the day but high winds and cloud cover will dominate before the real meat of this change builds later in the day.

Overnight lows were super warm with Gunnison dropping lower than the higher terrain at 30 degrees while Crested Butte reported a high of 37 degrees at midnight and warmer from there. Daytime highs will hit 50 for all elevations with the warmer southern flow holding on for today but the cold will be on us by tomorrow. Tonight’s lows will drop to around 30 degrees or slightly below depending on elevation.

High winds will announce the front end of this change as the southern flow is pushed clear and this northern trough takes over. Snow will be limited by the wind pushing everything through so quickly but look for cold and unsettled weather through the end of the week and into the weekend. Stay tuned for updates but expect that if it’s not tied down today it will want to blow away.
