A cold snowy shot in the works.
For 4/23/10: For Today: This same system is working it’s way back around in the vortex pattern for today and we managed to avoid the better part of it yesterday but regional radar is showing much more activity for today. The divide has acted as a blocker for us with Monarch pass looking snow covered early and snowy conditions also showing up on the western end of Blue Mesa. Colder temperatures and wind are indicating that this storm is not over by a long shot and today could present some wintry conditions.
Overnight lows were consistent with what we have been seeing with Crested Butte reporting 27 degrees and Gunnison was right in step at 26 degrees. Daytime highs will be colder today with the high 30’s about all we’ll see for all elevations and windchills will be significantly lower. Look for these colder temperatures to continue overnight with lows in the mid to low 20’s.
The heaviest snow will likely stay to the other side of the divide but this pattern has it filling in to our north and west so we won’t be escaping all together. Expect 2-5” possible today with more overnight. Bundle up as you head out today with cold temperatures and squally snow showers made colder by gusting winds.
