A sunny gap after a stormy night.
For 4/22/10: For Today: This low pressure system has formed a huge vortex pattern over the west and we saw the brunt of the first wave blowing through last night. Regional radar is showing a gap in the moisture for this morning that will offer some sunny skies but the next round will be coming around again by the early afternoon. Look for isolated showers along the higher terrain to continue but mix with pockets of sunshine early.
Overnight lows dropped consistently throughout the night with Crested Butte reporting 27 degrees at 5am and Gunnison staying just a couple degrees higher at 29 degrees. We will rebound with the sunshine early but highs will hold to the high 30’s or 40 degrees under the colder northern influence. Tonight will see the return of snow and cold from the north with the low 20’s likely for all elevations.
This storm system is lacking organization and the swirling vortex pattern will keep the cells hit or miss through tomorrow. Expect squally showers with a couple inches possible overnight under more consistent snow. Expect sloppy travel as you head out and be prepared for changes throughout the day.
