An early calm before the storm.
For 4/21/10: For Today: Models have continue to waffle on the strength and trajectory of this next pacific wave currently moving through the west and we have a closed low and a cold front hanging in the balance with today marking the build up. Look for high gusting winds gaining strength through the day blowing in the warmer front of this moisture offering rain and thundershowers through the afternoon and tonight.
Overnight lows warmed by a couple degrees last night with Crested Butte reporting 28 degrees and 30 degrees for Gunnison. Daytime highs will rebound slowly under the increasing cloud cover but we’ll still see the 50’s for all elevations but expect colder windchill values. Tonight will offer a much more active forecast and the heavy cloud cover and rain to start will keep us hovering on the 30 degree mark.
As this next pacific wave spins into the area it will draw a cold front down from the north to mix with the western flow of moisture. The result will be mixed precipitation as we sit right around the snow line until colder temperatures setup for Thursday afternoon and Friday. Warm ground will limit the accumulation down low but look for new snow on the peaks before we start to clear Saturday afternoon.
