The calm before a strong spring storm.

For 4/16/10: For Today: Better hurry and get any outside projects you started through this last high pressure window buttoned up because we are seeing waves of pacific moisture stacking in the west that will be feeding unsettled conditions into the area through the next week. Look for the front end of this system building into the area through the afternoon with thundershowers possible over the higher terrain by this evening. Snow will start overnight with 8-16” possible for the San Juans but we will be north of the heavier concentration and accumulations should be significantly lower.

Overnight lows were mild for with this warm air holding on with Crested Butte reporting 24 degrees and 26 degrees for Gunnison. Daytime highs will hit the 50’s for Crested Butte while Gunnison could break the low 60’s again. Tonight will offer another warm night with the snow line starting at 9500ft and dropping to around 7000ft by the early morning.

If this were a snow storm in the middle of winter it would offer the potential for significant snow through the weekend. As it stands we will see a mix of rain and snow with the mild southern flow which will keep totals in check but conditions will be variable. Expect sloppy travel through tomorrow with conditions improving slightly for Sunday and next week.
