Warn early but heavy cloud cover.
For 4/12/10: For Today: The front end of this next round of moisture has set up overnight and we are seeing thick cloud cover and mild temperatures. As the wave progresses we will see high gusting winds with any moisture holding off until later in the afternoon. Mild air from the southwest is keeping the projected snow line around 10,000ft before the colder northern push tomorrow and mixed precipitation or thundershowers are not out of the question.
On this same trend, overnight lows were warmer than we have been seeing with Crested Butte reporting 23 degrees and Gunnison 26 degrees. Daytime highs will climb even with the thick cloud cover to the 40’s and may reach the 50’s but gusting winds will have it feeling cooler. By tonight we will start to see colder air from the north with lows dropping back to the high teens but a delay in northern front will keep us warm.
This afternoon could present us with our first rain snow mix of the spring before the colder northern influence sets up. This will make for sloppy travel conditions so be prepared. By tomorrow we will be back in the snow with a couple inches likely before skies clear into Wednesday.
