Storm rolling in.

For 3/26/10: For Today: High clouds through the afternoon yesterday turned to snow showers early and we are waking up to a trace on the ground this morning. Regional radar is showing the front end of this next wave over Grand Junction early with snow expected to trickle into the area throughout the day. Look for a couple inches by tonight but the brunt won’t set up until after midnight and will create variables for the Grand Traverse.

Overnight lows were warm with the snow with Crested Butte reporting 25 degrees and Gunnison 26 degrees. Daytime highs will be moderated by the cloud cover but a warm start will mean another high in the 30’s. Look for gusting winds to offer colder windchills. Tonight is promising an active mix with new snow combining with high gusting winds. Lows will actually be fairly warm with this system but the winds will drive windchills to the single digits.

As this northern front slips south we will find ourselves on the windier fringe for the overnight hours. Conditions will likely get interesting as racers cross to the northern facing slopes and the mix of conditions will mean proper layering will be key to account for changing conditions.
