The snow has begun.

For 3/19/10: For Today: It took a little longer than expected but this cold front moved in early this morning and we are seeing that combination of cold air from the north and warm from the south creating squally bursts of snow. We will continue to see areas of heavy snowfall mixing with periods of less production. The bigger variable to just how much snow we’ll see will come from the gusting winds we will see blowing up to 30mph throughout the day and whether that helps or hurts the formation of this storm.

Overnight lows were complicated by the late arrival of the cold front with Crested Butte reporting a low of 24 degrees at 7am and Gunnison staying warmer at 31 degrees. We will just be dropping from here for our daytime highs with the mid 20’s about all we can expect and windchills that will feel significantly lower. Look for colder overnight temperatures tonight with the effects of this cold front but the teens will be likely with the continued cloud cover.

We will continue to see these squally snow showers throughout the day with 3-5” of snow possible. Expect cold windchills and bundle up as you head out. Skies will clear through tomorrow with sunny skies returning for Sunday.
