Sun early with snow on the way.
For 3/18/10: For Today: We have entered our day of transition from this current high pressure pattern and clouds will start to build early as the ridge moves clear of the area. A colder northern system is still on track to settle in overnight with areas of heavy cloud cover, snow and temperatures 10 degrees cooler with us through Friday. Expect high winds through this afternoon as we see the prefrontal shift but the heavier snow will hold off for the colder northern airmass tomorrow morning.
Overnight lows were a little warmer than projected with Crested Butte reporting 14 degrees and Gunnison holding to16 degrees. Daytime highs will be moderated by the cloud cover and gusting winds but will still find the low 30’s. Tonight should be about the same as last night with insulating cloud cover but the colder air could drive us closer to 10 degrees.
This next system will require all the right components to mix with the colder air to reach it’s potential for snow fall. A limiting factor will be the wind we see through this afternoon and the outlook is bound to change by tomorrow. Layer up today and expect changes through the afternoon and cooler windchill values.
