A beautiful day but snow on the way.

For 3/6/10: For Today: A ridge of high pressure will be pushing through the area today with mostly sunny skies early seeing some high clouds by the evening. This gap between the pacific waves will keep us in beautiful spring like weather for today as the western weather pattern postures to push another southern system through the area. The best chance for accumulations has now been pushed off to start early Sunday and continue all day.

Overnight lows stayed mild as the clearing held off until this morning with Crested Butte reporting 9 degrees while Gunnison dipped to 3 degrees. Daytime highs will climb quickly with the sunshine topping out in the high 20’s and low 30’s for all elevations. More mixed conditions overnight tonight will likely produce another overnight low in the single digits like last night.

The next round of pacific moisture is taking a circuitous route along the west coast and down through the southwest before starting it’s lift into our area. We will see a warm southern system lifting against a colder northern airmass through the day on Sunday with snow continuing into Monday. The convective potential will help produce snow but we need all the right pieces in place to reach the potential. Think snow.
