A sunny start.

For 2/22/10: For Today: The stream of pacific moisture that fed the big snowmaker through the weekend has slipped to the south and opened the door for a high pressure gap between systems that will dominate through Tuesday. We will see scattered remnants offering isolated pockets of cloud cover and snow showers but this system has passed and we will see mostly sunny skies dominating. There is more snow in the forecast starting by Wednesday but the next chance at heavy snow will likely hold off until the weekend.

Overnight lows were colder than we have been seeing as skies started to clear with Crested Butte reporting 8 degrees and Gunnison a couple degrees warmer with the heavier clouds at 10 degrees. Daytime highs will be cool and the low 20’s will be the warmest we see with colder windchills in the low teens possible. Look for temperatures to drop below 0 for all elevations tonight as skies clear allowing for good radiational cooling.

Sunny skies will dominate through Tuesday afternoon with a weak western system slipping into the area by Wednesday. This dirty western flow won’t offer anything more than an inch or two but we could see much more by the weekend. Don’t forget your sunscreen today.
