Another heavy round in the cue.

For 2/21/10: For Today: This stream of moisture remains focused on southern Colorado as the ridges to the north and south direct the flow. Yesterday we saw breaks as the moisture alternately lifted to the north and south but regional radar this morning shows the greatest concentration moving up through Telluride into our area and we will see some heavy snow before the day is done. Snow totals will fall into the 6-8” category but will ultimately depend on just how much of that concentrated flow we see.

Overnight lows stayed moderate under the heavy cloud cover and snow with Crested Butte reporting 15 degrees while Gunnison was lower at 8 degrees. Daytime highs will look a lot like yesterday with the mid 20’s a consistent mark for all elevations. Lows tonight will drop by a couple degrees but the snow is expected to continue into tomorrow so look for the single digits at the lowest.

Snow will hold into Monday night but then we will see this pattern shift with the sun making an appearance through Tuesday. The pattern will remain active for the end of next week with more snow on the way. Today could present some of the heaviest periods of snowfall we have seen through these waves so be prepared for rough travel conditions. Backcountry travel is discouraged with an Avalanche Warning in effect for our area. We have reached a tipping point so don’t be the trigger and be smart.
