18" in 24 hours with more coming.

For 2/20/10: For Today: The consistent stream of moisture we saw stretching from California to Colorado yesterday has continued to progress into our area and we are seeing blocking ridges to the north, south and east helping to alternately funnel and trap this moisture. Early regional radar images show the moisture stalling and pooling in western Colorado and the forecast just keeps getting better with another pacific wave joining the cue and keeping snow in the forecast through the beginning of the week. We have about 18” so far and the right components are in place to offer another 12”+ before this series is done.

Overnight lows were warm under the southern flow and with the heavy snow, dropping to just 21 degrees at midnight in Crested Butte and holding steady while Gunnison managed to drop to a still balmy 13 degrees. Daytime highs won’t show much movement in the north holding to the same high 20’s as the lower elevations. Look for another warm low tonight but we will likely hit the lower teens.

A slight gap as the next round sets up has given us a small break for the morning but we can expect snow through the day and into tomorrow with some heavier squalls mixing with consistent snowfall. Expect sloppy travel conditions with limited visibility and be sure to leave plenty of time. Keep doing that snow dance, there is more on the way.
