Snow on the ground and more for the weekend.

For 2/19/10: For Today: The waves of pacific moisture that have been stacking in the west have moved to the southwest and drawn into a single long line of moisture stretching from Colorado to California. The result is the best looking pattern we have seen in a while and it looks like we will have snow in the forecast through Sunday. Regional radar is showing a strong pocket to our west to kick things off so look for snow through the day with 4-6” possible by tonight.

Overnight lows were warm under this southwestern flow with Crested Butte bottoming out at 14 degrees and Gunnison a couple degrees lower at 12 degrees. Daytime highs will hit the mid to high 20’s with a pop above the 30 degree mark not out of the question with the milder flow. Look for another overnight low just like last night as the snow continues.

With ample moisture and good dynamics expected through the weekend, these systems will offer a swing at over a foot through Sunday. Look for this to come in wet and heavy which will help with bonding but it will also mean dangerous conditions in the backcountry. Keep your fingers crossed and do that snow dance but it’s looking good.
