The first in a series of storms setting up.

For 2/18/10: For Today: The first in a fresh volley of pacific waves is building early with snow expected to increase throughout the day. This will be another case of multiple weaker waves who’s sum total will offer a nice shot in the arm for conditions but it will take through the weekend to get there. Look for light snow early turning to heavier squalls later in the day and continuing overnight until tomorrow when we’ll see a break through the afternoon. We can expect 4-6” out of this first wave but totals may be limited if the right dynamics don’t fall into place.

Overnight lows were mild with the heavier cloud cover with Crested Butte reporting 12 degrees while Gunnison was more where we expected at 0. Daytime highs will have a harder time rebounding to the south with the colder start only hitting the low 20’s but Crested Butte will flirt with 30 degrees. Look for overnight lows returning to the single digits for all elevations especially if we see clearer skies from the gap between waves.

Rounds two and three in this line up of storms will come on Saturday and then again on Saturday night into Sunday. As previously mentioned, no single system will be a big snowmaker but the total by the end of the weekend will offer a fresh candy coating and a nice boost for conditions.
