Clouds building.
For 2/17/10: For Today: The front end of the last of these weaker northern systems is feeding high clouds into the area early. We will see gaps of sunshine but look for this cloud cover to continue to build over the course of the day. It’s looking pretty dry so snow showers on the higher terrain will be the extent of any snow but a much more promising pattern is developing for the end of the week and the weekend.
Overnight lows were about what we were expecting with Crested Butte dropping to -2 degrees and Gunnison making it just a degree lower to -3 degrees. Daytime highs will be moderated by the high clouds building this morning and the low 20’s could be a realistic high unless we see some healthier pockets of sunshine. Overnight lows will be warmer tonight but will remain in the single digits for all elevations.
A switch to a more zonal pattern through Thursday will introduce a much more promising forecast for the end of the week and the weekend. Look for snow Thursday and Friday with a separate and warmer southern option brewing for the weekend. We will hold in the 4-6” range through Friday unless the pattern stalls but the weekend’s storm could be an official snowmaker.
