Light snow for a fresh coating.
For 2/10/10: For Today: A looping low pressure trough is continuing to cycle moisture from a northern CA low down around to our south with some blown out remnants of the original system sliding into the area. This is the cause of the snow this morning but this dirty flow is offering only scattered pockets of moisture and snow will be hit or miss with limited accumulation. Expect some gusting winds and squally snow showers mixing with some brief gaps of sun.
Temperatures warmed significantly from last night with the low hitting 5 degrees at midnight in Crested Butte with all elevations warming to around 8 degrees through the morning. Daytime highs will be cooler with the snow and cloud cover but should hit the mid 20’s again valley wide. Tonight’s lows will be colder with skies clearing briefly as we switch to the more northern flow for the rest of the week.
This northern move in the dominant flow of the western weather pattern will pull a pacific system into the northwest with the southern most end offering some snow to areas along the divide. With the brunt holding well clear of our area accumulations will come in hit or miss cells that won’t promise too much in any single shot. These will be hard to predict so be prepared as you head out.
