Clouds building and snow on the way.

For 2/5/10: For Today: The front end of this next wave is choking up on us and cloud cover will be building through the day as the ridge cycles through to the east. Snow won’t likely start falling until tonight and it will be hit or miss without any real organized moisture on tap until tomorrow. Saturday night will present the best chance for snow but the forecast is looking active with waves of pacific moisture stacking in the west.

Overnight lows were colder than the night before under the mostly clear skies with Crested Butte reporting -1 degree while Gunnison was colder at -3 degrees. Daytime highs will have trouble rebounding under the mixed sun and clouds and the mid 20’s will dominate for all elevations. The cloud cover will continue to build overnight and lows will climb to the positive territory just above 0.

We are continuing to see this dirty western flow drawing pacific waves into the area and snow is in the forecast through the long term but the dynamics will dictate the potential. Look for inches and probably not feet through the beginning of next week but we’ll see how it develops.
