Feeling like spring.
For 1/29/10: For Today: The high pressure ridge that we were expecting has set up overnight but without the influence of the colder air from the north. The result is a much warmer airmass than was initially forecast with temperatures swinging yesterday to the highest highs we have seen since the fall. Today will be sunny with more of the same warm temperatures topping off what will feel an awful lot like a spring day.
Overnight lows were showing what can only be described as a reverse inversion with Crested Butte dropping to 3 degrees this morning while Gunnison stayed at 18 degrees. This discrepancy is so large that it could indicate an error with the station at the airport. Daytime highs will cross over the 30 degree mark again and top out in the mid to high 30’s. Tonight will be about the same at the northend of the valley but we’ll have to see about the south.
Mostly sunny conditions will dominate through today and tomorrow as this high pressure ridge crosses the area. We will see snow building by Sunday but this system is weakening. Expect thick for around Blue Mesa and the lower river valleys through the mornings. We have another incredible day on tap but don’t forget sunscreen.
