Heavy snow early with more on the way.

For 1/27/10: For Today: A looping low pressure trough has formed along the west coast and drawn this latest round of moisture well to the south before it was allowed to push up into our area. We are on the front end with the warmer dynamics but look for colder air from the north to push in along the western edge of the system with the best dynamics forming through this afternoon and tonight. Until then we will see the warmer and wetter portion of the storm offering 3-6” before the heavier stuff sets in overnight.

Overnight lows are a good show of this southern influence with Crested Butte only dropping to 12 degrees and Gunnison also staying warm at 8 degrees. Daytime highs will hold in the high teens and low 20’s with heavy cloud cover and snow. Look for tonight to look a lot like last night with the snow insulating against the cold and lows holding in the teens or single digits.

Our best chance at snow will come overnight and into tomorrow morning but today is also looking pretty good with regional radar showing a favorable pattern. Wind doesn’t figure to be a big factor but expect gusts as these systems shift this afternoon. Sunny skies will return by Friday so get outside and enjoy the snow.
