A sunny gap between pacific waves.

For 1/25/10: For Today: Mostly sunny skies have opened up on the tail end of this last round of moisture with the winds blowing it through faster than expected and opening a gap between waves. We will see cloud cover building again this afternoon with the next pacific volley moving into the west overnight. Moisture for Tuesday will remain scattered but look for a more significant wave on a southwest flow for Wednesday and Thursday.

Overnight lows dropped with the clear skies and fresh snow cover with Crested Butte reporting -9 degrees and Gunnison hitting -14 degrees. Even with the mostly sunny conditions temperatures will struggle to clear the teens at all elevations with the cold air pooling in the lowest valleys. Look for slightly warmer lows tonight with the cloud cover but we’ll still likely hold below 0.

The middle of this next week is looking the most promising for snow but just how much will depend on the pattern developing through today. As this shift occurs expect mostly sunny skies today with some gusting winds but nothing like we saw yesterday. It will be worth carrying layers today as we see increasing cloud cover.
