High clouds early and snow brewing.
For 1/17/10: For Today: We are seeing the front end of this stream of pacific moisture that has been brewing in the west. The high clouds today may offer some scattered snow showers but the warmer temperatures are lacking the dynamics to get the snow falling. Look for mostly cloudy conditions with some light gusting winds until tomorrow when we will see a slow increase in snow and moisture throughout the day.
Overnight lows were much warmer than expected with this cloud cover with Crested Butte reporting 9 degrees and Gunnison an even 0. Daytime highs will hit the mid to high 20’s depending on elevation. Tonight’s lows will once again be moderated by the insulating cloud cover with all elevations in the single digits.
A consistent volley of pacific moisture is promising an active week with the first round on Monday slowly building into a warm wet flow with the potential for heavy snow through the week. This is a favorable pattern for us and the best looking chance we have seen in quite a while. Keep your fingers crossed and think snow.
