A mix of sun and high clouds.

For 1/16/10: For Today: The southern most end of a weak pacific system pushing through northern Colorado has introduced some high clouds overnight that will pollute what was expected to be more clear blue skies. This will mean a mix of sun and clouds but in a faster progression than initially forecast as this next volley of pacific waves sets up in the west. Long term models are now showing a better chance at more significant snowfall for next week so this shift is definitely a good thing.

Overnight lows were moderated by the cloud cover with Crested Butte holding above 0 at 1 degree this morning while Gunnison still managed to drop to -7 degrees. These warmer than expected overnight temperatures could also mean daytime highs a few degrees higher in the twenties and even low 30’s but the same moderating effect could also keep the highs in check. We will continue to see cloud cover building into Sunday so look for another night tonight like last night.

It would be a lie to say that the western weather pattern has become more organized but the current setup presents a lot more potential then we have seen through the last 2 weeks. It’s time to leave the toys outside, tools on the deck or anything else you can think of to dare the snow gods. Think snow and enjoy the weekend.
