A fizzled system.
For 1/14/10: For Today: This weak pacific wave moving in from the west has proven weaker than expected with the warmer dynamics lacking the catalyst for any real snow production. We are still seeing some wrap around moisture from the southwest lifting into the area that could provide some snow showers but this system lacks any real teeth. Skies will clear into tonight with a ridge returning to the area for this weekend.
Overnight lows show the effects of this warmer airmass with Crested Butte only dropping to 6 degrees while Gunnison enjoyed a balmy 0. Daytime highs will be warm today with all elevations in the mid 20’s or even low 30’s if the warmest air hangs on. Tonight will mark the return of the colder flow with all elevation dipping below 0 and the inversion reforming in the lower valleys.
The lack of organization in the recent systems has lead to this dry spell and while this last system did little to bring any relief to the west, it did reorient the pattern and next week is looking a lot more promising. Look for a mix of sun and clouds today with skies clearing overnight. Layer up to account for changes over the course of the day.
