More sun for this morning but snow tonight.

For 1/12/10: For Today: As this high pressure ridge has cleared the area overnight it is opening the door to a much more complicated mix of weather conditions. We can expect another day of mostly sunny skies as the window of high pressure truly closes and increasing cloud cover overnight will become snow by tomorrow. Just how much will be a hard call as the flow switches to the south and we see weaker dynamics meeting this unorganized moisture producing a couple inches with the higher terrain having the potential for more.

Overnight lows were an indication of this mix with Crested Butte holding at 1 degree while Gunnison dropped to -13 degrees. Daytime highs will rebound under the sunny skies with the mid to high 20’s possible for all elevations. Look for the cloud cover tonight to offer warmer lows by a few degrees at all elevations but the inversion will keep the southern valleys colder.

While the changes we are seeing right on the heals of this last northern impulse aren’t supper promising for snow, they are putting into effect a series of changes that will lead to a much more beneficial pattern into next week. We can expect a couple inches at a time out of these waves through Friday but the bigger promise is coming next week. Keep your fingers crossed and think snow.
