More cold and a little cloud cover.

For 1/9/10: For Today: Two different weak western waves will cycle through to the east today but both are so weak that they will split on this western ridge leaving us with just some high clouds and gusting winds. Areas along the divide could see a higher concentration through the afternoon but nothing worth changing any plans over. We are in the doldrums of January right now with mostly sunny conditions dominating under this high pressure ridge while cold air pools in the lower valleys.

Last night was a perfect example of how the inversion affects the temperatures with Crested Butte dropping to -9 degrees, CB South -12 degrees and Gunnison -21 degrees. Daytime highs will rebound under the clear skies but will struggle to clear the teens at any elevation while the south end of the valley stays a couple degrees colder. Look for more of the same cold clear conditions tonight but we should warm by a couple degrees as we see some mixing from the passing systems.

We are starting to see some moisture posturing in the pacific the morning that could bring some relief from the high pressure siege by next week but we’ll have to see how it develops. Until then respect the cold and keep an eye on exposed skin while also wearing sunscreen.
