Super Cold.

For 1/8/10: For Today: Clear skies combined with the cold air from the north has allowed a cold clear morning that will set the stage for the next few days weather. A strong ridge has formed over the western US driving this next pacific wave further north than initially anticipated and set up a high pressure regime that will dominate into next week. We will see sunshine but colder temperatures will be the dominant weather feature.

Overnight lows were significantly colder than yesterday with Gunnison 41 degrees colder than yesterday’s 3am reading bottoming out at -20 degrees while Crested Butte was slightly warmer at -15 degrees. Daytime highs will struggle to rebound from these cold overnight lows with 10 degrees likely for Gunnison and the high teens for Crested Butte. Tonight’s lows will be warmer but only by a couple degrees still bottoming out in the negative teens.

Cold and clear will be the name of the game through the next few days with chances at snow few and far between while the high pressure ridge holds. In classic form the ridges and higher altitudes will warm much faster than the lower valleys with fog likely around Blue Mesa and the rivers. Time to start doing that special snow dance.
