Snow showers early and more in the forecast.
For 1/2/10: For Today: The front end of this next round of pacific moisture has dropped into our area from the north and we are waking up to snow this morning. This next system is coming in as a series of unorganized waves from the northwest and will mean snow throughout the day in varied degrees continuing into tomorrow but accumulations will be limited. Expect a couple inches a day to freshen things up but this lacks the dynamics of a real snowmaker.
Overnight lows were warmer than expected as this cloud cover set in with Crested Butte reporting 15 degrees this morning and Gunnison 9 degrees. Daytime highs were expected to hold in the high teens but since we are starting there I’ll have to bump the number to the low and mid 20’s for all elevations. Tonight should stay right in check with last night with the same heavy cloud cover and snow showers.
The unorganized nature of these systems will limit the snow and is making for a complicated forecast. So far the inversion seems to be holding off so look for warmer than expected temperatures but also expect changes throughout the day as these waves cycle through. Pack layers and be prepared.
