Snow overnight but clear early.
For 12/31/09: For Today: The tail end of this last round of moisture moved through a little faster than expected with clear skies settling in overnight. The combination of fresh snow in the valleys and clear skies opened the door to a return appearance from the inversion that wasn’t expected. We will see remnants from this last system cycling through the area mostly along the divide and higher terrain offering scattered snow showers but the next real shot at some moisture will hold off until Friday.
Overnight lows were much colder than predicted with the clearer conditions with Crested Butte getting the best of it at -4 degrees while Gunnison was much colder at -10 degrees. Daytime highs will rebound under the sunny skies but will likely hold in the teens rather than the forecast 20’s. Look for another colder night tonight with more lows below 0 for all elevations.
Waves of pacific moisture are continuing to stack in the pacific but they are definitely not taking the path of least resistance to get to us. As a result we will see unorganized and scattered snow pushing through the area through the weekend. Accumulations will be spotty and limited to an inch or two at a time so pack layers as you head out and be prepared for changes throughout the day.
