Cold and clear but changes on the way.
For 12/28/09: For Today: We are transitioning between two weather patterns today and the clear skies early will give way to increasing cloud cover through the day. The first round of moisture we will see for this week will be coming from the southwest and will offer warmer temperatures if not a ton of snow. We will see a better chance at more significant accumulations by Wednesday and Thursday but this pacific moisture will be dropping from the northwest and will require some help to reach it’s potential.
Overnight lows were very cold with Crested Butte hitting -9 degrees but Gunnison was showing the effects of the inversion dropping to -17 degrees this morning. Daytime highs will rebound slowly even with the clear skies with the higher elevations and ridges hitting the teens while Gunnison will struggle to break 10 degrees after the super cold night. Look for warmer overnight lows tonight as this cloud cover sets up but it will take another day or two to effect that stubborn inversion.
Our week is starting to look pretty active with the different volleys of pacific moisture from the south and then the north but we will have to see how the pattern develops through the next 24 hours. We will see warmer temperatures and some the pieces in place for a good snowmaker so do that snow dance and think snow.
