Blue skies but still cold.
For 12/26/09: For Today: This same system that stalled in the central US is continuing to wraparound into northern Colorado with the divide acting as the southern most edge. We are seeing some isolated cloud cover and snow showers sliding across but most of this will continue to steer clear of our area. Cold temperatures are continuing to hold but remain a couple degrees warmer than expected since we are sitting on the edge of these systems.
Overnight lows dropped to -5 degrees in Crested Butte and -8 degrees in Gunnison. Daytime highs will struggle again to break 15 degrees for most elevations but the wind appears to have slowed overnight so this should help. Look for clearer skies overnight to allow for colder overnight lows with all elevations flirting with the negative teens.
We are going to continue to see the mixed bag of conditions at the north end of the valley but the pressure is rising, wind is decreasing and this wraparound moisture appears to be moving east so the variable components are leaving. Pack layers and expect that same mix of sun and clouds and definitely respect the frostbite potential and keep an eye on any exposed skin.
