Christmas Cold.

For 12/25/09: For Today: Merry Christmas! The wave of moisture we saw through the beginning of the week stalled in the Central US yesterday and has recirculated back around. The brunt of this will be an upslope event holding on the other side of the divide but we can expect some scattered snow showers dipping around into our area. The most notable feature on the edge of this system will be the wind and dangerous windchill values.

Overnight lows were fairly moderate with the last gasp from the south with Crested Butte reporting 4 degrees and Gunnison 7 degrees. Daytime highs will struggle to break 15 degrees in Crested Butte but will likely be a few degrees warmer to the south. Skies will clear overnight allowing for very cold lows in the negative teens.

This moisture should clear the area before tomorrow opening the door for a much sunnier weekend but this will have little effect on the cold. Expect chilly temperatures with windchill values you will need to prepare for. Be sure to layer up as you head out today and expect blowing snow.
