One more sunny day and then here comes the snow.

For 12/21/09: For Today: Today marks the day of transition as this high pressure ridge finally pushes clear of the area and opens the door for a series of pacific waves that will bring snowy conditions back for the holiday week. Look for high clouds building through the afternoon with mostly cloudy conditions dominating overnight. By tomorrow morning we will see the front end of the next round and snow will be likely through the better part of the week.

Overnight lows were mixed with Crested Butte reporting 1 degree this morning while the valley inversion pushed Gunnison to -9 degrees. We will rebound quickly with the ridges and higher elevations set for another nice day in the high 20’s while Gunnison will hover right on that 20 degree mark. Cloud cover building in tonight will moderate the lows by capping the radiational cooling but everyone will still hover at or below 0 degrees.

The western weather pattern has been shifting through the weekend and finally settled into a beneficial southwestern flow for us. We will see snow starting on Tuesday and continuing through Thursday as the heaviest of these waves passes us and then there is another volley of pacific moisture setting up behind that. Get out and enjoy the sunshine today and don’t forget sunscreen.
