Another snowy morning.

For 12/12/09: For Today: The brunt of this next round of moisture has setup early and we are seeing a good combination of components helping to wring the available moisture out of the system. We are seeing that warm meets cold scenario but the warmer conditions from the west have effectively scoured the lower valleys a lot faster than expected. This will mean more wind which will limit visibility and make for dangerous travel conditions through tomorrow.

Overnight lows were a lot milder than expected and Crested Butte reported 21 degrees this morning and Gunnison was only a couple degrees colder at 19 degrees. Daytime highs will hold in the high 20’s valley wide but gusting winds will offer windchill values significantly colder. Look for continued cloud cover and snow overnight to keep lows in the high teens.

We are sitting right on the southern most edge of this latest wave of moisture and the heaviest snow will fall on the divide and higher terrain. As the jet passes over us it will mean an increase in winds through the afternoon but until then we will just be collecting snow. If all the right pieces stay in place we could see another 12+” before skies clear into Monday. Travel safe today and be prepared for all conditions.
