Waking up to snow falling.

For 12/12/09: For Today: The front end of this first wave has set up early this morning and we are seeing a good shot of moisture holding along the divide and northern boundary of our weather zone. This will move through fairly quickly this morning with a gap forming through the afternoon as the next wave moves into place to drop more snow on us tonight and tomorrow. Expect squally snow showers early today with a few inches likely before it slows down.

Overnight lows were much more moderate than expected with Crested Butte holding to 9 degrees and Gunnison just a degree lower at 8 degrees. Apparently this first round was able to scour that inversion and we should see warmer temperatures valley wide with today’s and tomorrow’s highs hovering right around that 22 degree sweet spot for snow production. Tonight’s lows will hold around the 10 degree mark for all elevations as the cloud cover from this next wave and snow will keep us insulated.

The current trajectory of these pacific waves favors our area and we will see the potential for a few inches today and another healthy shot of snow tomorrow. Another foot for a storm total is definitely not out of the question as the pieces fall into place so keep your fingers crossed and think snow.
