Just plain cold.
For 12/4/09: For Today: We are waking up to another cold morning with these clear skies holding under the colder northern low but today will mark a day of transition and there are changes brewing to the west. Look for a slight increase in cloud cover today with gusting winds interacting with more cold temperatures offering windchill values well below 0. By tomorrow we will see much more cloud cover and warmer temperatures but highs will be limited by inversions that will require a good scouring before we really warm up which doesn’t look like it will be happening any time too soon.
Overnight lows were as cold as the night before with Crested Butte reporting -13 degrees and Gunnison reaching -12 degrees. We will rebound slowly even with the clear skies with highs only expected to push towards 20 degrees valley wide with windchills well below that. Tonight will be a couple degrees warmer under the increased cloud cover but valley inversions will keep lows hovering below 0.
Today will feel a lot like yesterday with the cold conditions but winds will gust a little higher. Respect the frostbite potential on any uncovered skin and take all necessary precautions. We are seeing some beneficial developments in the weather pattern with favorable conditions for our first real snowmaker coming next week. Think snow.
