Sunny early big big changes brewing.

For 12/2/09: For Today: Sorry for the day out on the report but I had to leave town for the day. Regional radar is showing a continued large dry spot over most of the western US but the exception is a digging low pressure trough moving down the divide bringing a significant cold front but less significant moisture. We will see a mix of sun and clouds early becoming cloudy with isolated snow showers on the divide tonight. The brunt of this moisture will stay north but the big issue will be the cold temperatures which will finally draw in the dynamic component necessary to kick up some weather, maybe.

Overnight lows were cold again under the clear skies with Crested Butte reaching 4 degrees while Gunnison dropped to 0. Daytime highs will be significantly colder than what we have been seeing with all elevations trying to climb out of the 20’s and likely hovering around the mid to low 20’s at all elevations. Overnight lows will also plummet to below zero tonight as this cold front truly gets set up.

The next few day will be the wind up to a much more complicated forecast for this weekend. It’s hard to call right now but it’s looking like we could see this cold from the north meeting warm and wet from the south through the beginning of next week offering our first real snowmaker. Today will be a good day to pack plenty of layers as you head out because it will start cold and get colder.
