Giving thanks for beautiful blue skies.

For 11/26/09: For Today: Happy Thanksgiving. We are waking up to a full fledged day of high pressure with this ridge slowly marching through the area with today offering nothing but clear and sunny skies. The lower valleys will remain a little colder while the inversion holds but the ridges and higher terrain will enjoy above average temperatures in the high 30’s. We are on track for some changes through tomorrow but for today we will enjoy a beautiful day of light breezes and sunny skies.

Overnight lows were cold under the clear skies with Crested Butte dropping to 9 degrees while Gunnison was down to 2 degrees with the inversion holding strong. Daytime highs will reflect the same discrepancy between the ridges and lower valleys with the north end of the valley hitting the high 30’s and flirting with 40 while Gunnison struggles to get much higher than 32 degrees. Overnight lows will once again drop to the single digits valley wide with Gunnison colder than Crested Butte by a few degrees.

This high pressure ridge will move over our area tomorrow with high gusting winds building through the afternoon. This will blow in some high clouds by the nighttime but also scour the inversion bringing the lower valleys back into check for the weekend.
